How to ensure easy, effortless exit of stool
1. If you are delaying opening or moving your bowel because of the fear of pain from an anal fissure or other medical condition, you should visit your Doctor for advice.
Often the prescription is for inclusion of a lubricant such as liquid paraffin to ease the passage of the stool.

Often this lubricant is prescribed together with a stool softener in order to ease the passage of a hard stool through an anal fissure or after anal or rectal surgery.
2. Try to manipulate colonic speed to enhance evacuation.

If constipation is due to a sluggish colon or slow colonic transit, it may be difficult to initiate bowel motion.
A stool softener will help to move a hard faecal mass through the colon.
A couple of glasses of warm water often help to create contractions in the rectum due to distention of the stomach wall. (The GASTROCOLIC REFLEX)

Adopting the squat posture to evacuate the bowel helps create pressures within the colon at the CECUM and SIGMOID COLON by compression of the thighs on the left and right sides of the abdomen. The pressure created in this way is sufficient to initiate and maintain a bowel motion.
Exercise or a ten minute walk may increase motility.

3. If you are in the habit of visiting the toilet before receiving the urge to go, you are likely to be STRAINING to initiate and maintain a bowel movement.
Even if you are successful at producing some waste, this will be an incomplete elimination due to the straining process causing the paradoxical CONTRACTION of the pelvic floor muscles and the anal sphincter muscles leading to a CLOSURE of the pathway that is opened when these muscles RELAX.
You need to wait until the urge to defecate is really strong. Learn to ignore the first weak signals to defecate.
You need to realize that the longer you wait, the stronger are the pressures that will eventually expel the stool from the rectum.
STRAINING is causing the defecation mechanism to malfunction. You must learn not to STRAIN. If you find yourself in the toilet and cannot initiate a movement, do not keep sitting there.
You will only end up STRAINING. Get off the seat and leave the toilet until the urge is strong enough.

You need to know the difference between a weak signal and a strong signal to go. Avoid responding to the weak signal in order to avoid STRAINING.

Diet is not about what you should NOT eat, it’s about what you should include in the diet that matters.
As long as your diet includes the correct balance of plant foods containing soluble fibre, insoluble fibre and resistant starch your colon will produce the perfectly formed stool.
